Below are the results of some of the sporting events and competitions our school has taken part in. Photos of some events can be found in Celebrating Mowden 2019/2020.

October 2019:

Thursday 3rd October 2019 - Primary Cross Country

On Thursday 3rd October 36 KS2 children represented Mowden at the Annual Darlington Primary Schools Cross Country. After a fabulous afternoon of running and great amounts of effort there were 10 children in total who finished in the top 10 in their age group, and will therefore represent Darlington Schools in the upcoming Tees Valley Cross Country Event. 

Further to that the school produced potentially its best team results ever. Please see the table below for more details.

Monday 14th October 2019 -  Mixed Tag Rugby 

On Monday 14th October 3 mixed teams of 10 children visited Darlington Mowden Park Rugby Club for a great afternoon of Tag Rugby along with 6 other school teams. The 3 teams played in 2 stages of group games with all teams performing fantastically and learning lots.

Furthermore, the ‘A’ Team qualified for the ‘Finals’ day on Thursday 17th October back at DMPRFC. After 3 great wins in the group stages the team progressed into the Top group to see who were overall winners. After some tough fought games, the team finished a brilliant 3rd overall, just missing out on qualifying for the Tees Valley Games!

Well done to all who took part over the two afternoons.

 

Friday 18th October 2019: Girls Tag Rugby

On Friday 18th October a team of 10 girls went to Eastbourne Sports Complex for a great afternoon of Tag Rugby, along with 15 other school team. After a tough group stage, the girls found their feet going on to win their final 3 games. The girls certainly enjoyed their day and learnt lots about Tag Rugby. Well done to all those who took part.

 

Tuesday 22nd October 2019: Year 4 Tag Rugby Festival

On Tuesday 22nd October, a team of 10 girls and 10 boys went to Mowden Park Rugby Club to take part in a Tag Rugby Festival, along with 15 other schools. They took part in series of skill practices ran by Secondary Young Leaders, and then got chance to play a few games. They all had a fantastic time and learnt many new skills. Well done all.

 

November 2019:

Wednesday 6th November 2019: Year 6 SportsHall Athletics

On Wednesday 6th November a mixed teams of 19 children visited Wyvern Academy to take part in an afternoon of competitive SportsHall Athletics. The children competed in both indoor track and indoor field events against 5 other schools.

They finished 2nd overall on the day Qualifying for the final taking place in the New Year.

Well done all.

January 2019:

Wednesday 8th January - Year 6 SportsHall Athletics Finals

On Wednesday 8th January a mixed team of 18 children visited The Dolphin Centre to take part in the finals of the Darlington Primary School SportsHall Athletics. The children competed in both indoor
track and indoor field events against 8 other schools. They finished 4th overall on the day just missing out on a place in the medals!
Well done all.

Thursday 23rd January -Year 5 Basketball 

Two mixed teams of 8 children per team visited The Education Village for two separate basketball tournaments. The ‘A’ Team played in the morning in the Cup competition, finishing 6th overall. The ‘B’ team played in the Plate Competition in the afternoon, where they finished 4th overall narrowly missing out on a medal. The children had a brilliant time, well done everybody who represented Mowden.

 

Friday 24th January - Year 4/5 Dodgeball 

A team of nine boys from Year 5 and Year 4 visited Hurworth School to take part in the Annual Darlington Primarys Schools Dodgeball Tournament. In the first round, the team did not drop a single game, in a best of three format, to go onwards to the Champions Group. In the Top Tier they faced Skerne Park, Reid Street, and Abbey. Once again, they won all their games, to be crowned champions for 2020!
All the boys were brilliant, well done to all who took part!!

Wednesday 5th February - Year 3 Tennis

A team of 8 children visited Wyvern for a great afternoon of Tennis. The children got to play in some competitive tennis matches and also take part in some skills games, which helped them to improve their tennis. The children had a fantastic time, learnt lots about tennis and had lots of fun. Well done everybody.

 

Thursday 6th February - Year 5/6 Boys Football

Mowden’s A Team took part in the recent Darlington Schools Cup. They finished 3rd in the morning stages which meant they went into the middle tier for the afternoon competition. They again finished third in this group, which meant out of 16 ‘A’ Teams they finished 9th overall.

Well done Boys. 

 

Tuesday 11th February - 5-a-side Football Competition 

Congratulations to the Y6 boys who represented Mowden at the Darlington Primary 5-a-side competition. They played really well, finishing as runners up after losing out in a sudden death penalty shootout in the final!
