Year 5/6 Swimming Gala - Monday 4th March
On Monday 4th March, a group of year 5s and 6s went to a swimming gala at the Dolphin Centre. Our team of 20 pupils competed against seven other large primary schools and we saw some great individual performances, especially in the freestyle relays. Although we are unlikely to progress to the finals, a great morning was had by all and all pupils entered into the team spirit showing respect and determination.
Year 6 Dance Festival - Tuesday 12th March
Year 5/6 Girls Football - Monday 4th February
On Monday 4th February, 9 year 5 & 6 girls went to Eastbourne Sports complex to play a six a side football tournament. It was very cold so we had to keep running round the outside of the pitch to keep warm when it was not our turn. We played against 4 other schools. We won our first match 3-0 with both Lola and Sofia scoring but then lost the following 3 matches 4-0, 3-0 and 2-0. It was good fun and was great to play together, looking at who was the best in each position.
Year 3 Tennis competition - Tuesday 5th February
Year 4 Football Festival - Thursday 7th February
One team of Boys and one team of Girls were given the opportunity to play some games against other schools. They learnt some new skills and thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
Year 5/6 Boys Open Football - Monday 11th February
Mowden’s A Team performed very well at the recent Darlington Schools Cup. They won their group very convincingly in the morning winning all 5 games without conceding. In the afternoon they played in a group of 6 teams, and finished second overall, winning their first three games and drawing the last two 0-0, with the final game against the overall winners Whinfield an exciting winner takes all affair. After playing 9 games all day, they ended with a brilliant record of 7 wins and 2 draws, scoring 15 goals and not conceding any the whole day. Well done Boys.
Year 5/6 Boys Open Football plate - Monday 25th February
Mowden’s B Team performed very well at the recent Darlington Schools Plate, playing against many smaller schools A teams. In the group stages they qualified 2nd after playing 5 games and winning 4 of them. In the afternoon the games were played as a knockout, unfortunately they lost to eventual winners Corporation Road in the Quarter finals, but then won their next two games to finish 5th out of 17 teams. Well done boys.
Year 5/6 High Five Netball Cup - Thursday 28th February
A squad of 8 girls visited Polam for great day of competitive Netball against 17 other teams. The group stages were a close battle with ourselves, Polam ‘A’ and Holy Family evenly matched, however after taking points from each other it went down to wins and points scored against the other schools in the group, with Mowden qualifying in Second Place on Points Difference. The record for the morning was 4 wins and one defeat.
This meant in the afternoon they played in the Top Group for a chance to finish from 1st to 4th. 0Unfortunately, they came up against a well organised Hurworth Team, and the 2 Polam teams. Mowden finished the afternoon with one win and two losses and in a very creditable 3rd place and Bronze medal winners. Well done Girls.

Year 3/4 Rugby Festival - Thursday 25th October
Year 4 attended a tag rugby festival at Mowden Park Stadium on Thursday 25th October. 30 year 4 pupils attended and so we had enough for a Mowden A, B and C team. First we played some matches against other schools but the best bit was when we did a carousel and did a varied range of activities including aeroplane tag rugby, horse and jockey and race the ball. We had a lot of fun and learnt lots of new skills.
