Mr Shaw Visits

Mr Raymond Shaw, now in his nineties, was the first headteacher at the Mowden Schools from 1970 to 1989. During that time he had a Japanese exchange worker stay with him for a few months and to mark his old friend's return to England during August of this year, Mr Shaw asked if he could show him around school. Mr King met them all and learned about Mowden's early history. Mr Shaw was appointed to the infant school (initially the 'primary' school) when that was built in 1970, and as the planned numbers grew and the junior school was built he then became the headteacher of the juniors in 1972. He remained in post until Mr Watkinson became the head in 1989.

We hope that Mr Shaw will visit again soon!
